Olympic Fever?

Sitting by the TV, watching Team USA give up the gold at the moment. Maybe by the end of my blog, I can correct myself??

This week can be described in one word: sickening

Literally.

Eden puked all day on Monday. I cleaned up all day Tuesday. Lars threw up all day Wednesday. I cleaned up all day Thursday. Friday, everybody seemed back to health. I finished my antibiotics for a sinus infection/bronchitis and the family hung out and played. Saturday, it was my day to hog the bathroom with exclusive rights to the porcelain throne.

I would end it there, but that just doesn't seem right.

It was a fairly busy week, as well, mostly holding children in their respective rocking chairs.

Had company for supper on Tuesday, followed by a lengthy biblical debate. Wednesday, Daddy was at church all day and evening with confirmation and Lenten Service. Eden went to preschool on Tuesday and Thursday. Piano on Thursday. Saturday, Al came home to rescue me after a morning meeting at church. I laid around the rest of the day. Today, he preached at the nursing home after church & bible study. Meanwhile, Lars woke up from his nap sneezing with snot all over his face, which hasn't seemed to stop since I first wiped it. What did mothers do before Benadryl?

The 10" of snow is melting and looking lousy with the grass poking up. If the sun was shining, it would be tolerable, but it's cloudy with a misty fog instead. Think we'll stay in tonight with puzzles & Dr. Suess.

I guess it's time to turn the calendar, too, isn't it?

A snowy week in February

As you can see from the above photos, yesterday was partially spent on the back of the 4 wheeler, getting pulled around the open fields of Nebraska on a sled. Of course, the pregnant one wasn't allowed to go and ran a 911 call instead, but the photos speak for themselves to the amount of fun that was had by everybody else.

We have played outside a lot this week, with the fresh fallen snow. The kids have their own shovels to help clear the walk ways and drive way, which provides hours of fun in the process. As far as I'm concerned, it can snow all the way through March. I love it. (However, when April hits, it's time for spring.)

Although I was feeling a bit more human last Monday, I wasn't quite as human as I'd hoped. Samson got a bath on Monday and I sat on the couch, getting up to do something for the kids only as necessary.

Tuesday, Eden went to preschool & Lars had therapy. I sat and watched.

Ash Wednesday, I ran an early morning call then came back to sit on the couch all morning, reading to the kids and pretending to nap. Lars was asleep before church began that evening so suffice it to say, we missed the ashes on the forehead this year.

Thursday, Eden had preschool again, came home to play in the snow and waited for the hoard of girls to arrive after school. After croaking my way through choir, I came home and went to bed.

By Friday, I was miserable with a sinus infection, ear almost infection and a most certain case of bronchitis. I'm pretty sure my family was miserable about it, too. Not getting supper provided all week is not my husband's idea of a happy marriage.

We had Lars IFSP meeting in the morning after speech, reviewing the goals set 6 months ago (many of which have been met) and setting new goals for the next 6 months. The biggest two goals for us between now and August are having Lars increase his vocab from 50 to about 300 words (normal for a 3 year old is 450) and also putting a verb with a noun. We'll see how that goes.

Friday after naps, we packed up the snowsuits and headed way out into the country to the Austin's house, where the kids were going to play while I had a prenatal appointment in SB. The snow was beautiful and they were ready to get on a sled.

For my efforts in getting better on my own, the doc smiled, then gave me some mediocre 'safe during pregnancy' antibiotics & other random drugs. After 2 days of it, I really DO feel a bit better.

Daddy spent Saturday working from home with the kids, along with some play time outside in the still falling snow, while I sat through an all day EMS training in SB. It was well worth the time, I just wish I'd felt better for it. Despite the rough roads, the attendance was over 100.

After another 6" of snow through the night and church on Sunday, the Bridgeport Ministerial Association held it's annual soup supper at the school to raise money for its organization to help the needy. Our church was in charge of it this year, so I helped with that as best I could, before coming home to take a 2 hour nap with both kids. That was the highlight of my day, I think.

Was hoping to get a lot done this Monday morning, but with Eden throwing up every 20 minutes since before dawn, I'm thinking about lessening my expectations of the day to come. In fact, this just might be the only thing that actually gets done!

Enjoy the snow!

Daytona 500

Quite and eventful week here in our home.

Lars talked about his head all week, saying "noodle hurt" and pointing to his bruise. He has been adding new words to his vocab every day. "MOVE" being the most prominent, as he tries to walk through you to get somewhere.

Eden is starting to get anxious for race season, asking me every other day, "When will it be the races?" As I write this, we are all sitting on the couch watching the currently red flagged Daytona 500. I keep telling her it'll be after the baby is born, which leads to the next question, "When did you say the new baby will come out of your belly?" to which I answer, "When it's time to plant flowers in the spring". Often, this is followed by the question, "Can we go buy some flowers?"

We had eye appointments on Monday and all passed with flying colors. Eden claimed that she was very brave, even though she fought tooth and nail and cried through the eye drops to dilate her eyes. After that, she was somewhat uncooperative and ornery, but walked out saying, "I was such a good girl, wasn't I mommy?" I guess 'good' is a relative term.
Al was busy this week, even with no confirmation class on Wednesday. Lots going on in the church. We ended up taking a quick trip to SB to run errands while he had somebody to visit at the hospital. He also had a meeting Friday and Saturday in Casper, so was gone overnight then.

Naturally, I developed a sore throat and was up all night Wednesday night, and sat around doing nothing all day Thursday, trying to determine whether or not I felt better. I went to choir, but got called away  in the middle of it.

Another endless night Thursday night, refilling the vaporizer every two hours, coughing my lungs up, taking Sudafed every four, downing 3 bottles of water and running to the potty every hour. Oh yeah, I forgot about the house fire two blocks away.

Friday, minus the huge kink in my neck, I thought I felt better. The preacher left for Casper and I helped Laura take a bunch of 9 year olds, plus my two, to SB for Kyra's bowling B-day party. Other than driving, I'm not sure I was much help. Came back for pizza at her house, sat around talking to Mark while Laura did all the work in the kitchen. Ate, had cake and left for home. Eden was not happy that she couldn't stay for the sleep over. I told her I would be lonely, because Daddy was gone. She understood this to mean that I wanted somebody to sleep in my bed, so here comes Eden with a bunch of baby dolls, blankets for each, her blanket, a few bottles and her pink pillow. Needless to say, I didn't sleep any that night either.

Saturday morning, the preacher called from Casper, sick and in bed in the hotel, lonely and un-medicated. I tried to feel sorry for him, but it was tough, being sick myself and home alone with two kids. His revelation was that he'd never leave me home alone sick with the children. I hope he's reading this because now it's in writing.

I don't plan to do much today, but we might wander out for some fresh air in a bit. Or maybe take a nap.

I'm hoping by tomorrow to be completely human again, but I make no guarantees. Having a cold and being pregnant is the pits, there are so little drugs you can take safely.

Despite the illness, the sun is shining and all is well.

February Fever

I am finding that the first week in any month is always busy in our house. Between scheduled meetings, paying bills & the like, it's non stop action. Of course, I've always said that about the second week of the month, so maybe it really doesn't matter. I did get our taxes sent in on Friday and am hoping for something back soon. Money for a get-away? A couple extra car payments? Something for the IRA? Probably none of the above, but diapers for #3 seems to be a realistic plan.

Lars had a cold all last week that got a bit green towards the end, but I think he's on the mend now. You can see by the huge bump on his forehead that he had a good week. He lost his balance at the top of the concrete steps at church as we were about to head out the door. I had my back turned to him, and he fell from the top to the bottom, hitting the top of his head on a step and then his forehead on the concrete floor. The photo doesn't seem to make it look too bad. Of course, Mom and Dad left on a week long cruise to Mexico on Sunday, so I had no one to call for moral medical support. Someday, my hubbie will retire and we'll travel the world again too. Right now, bundling up for a trip to the park can be a challenge!~

Went to a Superbowl party last night at a friend's new house. It was a good time & I actually enjoyed the game while my kids made new friends and tore the house up. Too bad drinking was out for me. I could have used that after my afternoon.

Watched the Wings squander another great lead and continue to fall deeper into the pit of no return to playoffs. That's always uplifting, if you're rooting for all the other teams in the Western Conf.

Lars is starting to say a couple phrases. "Let me in" & "I do it". It may not seem like a whole lot, but major progress for him. He has his 6 month eval coming up later in the month.

Eden wants to live at Zell's house (her preschool) because Zell lets all her (Eden's) friends come over every day. I'm sure that makes sense to a preschooler. I'm sure I'd be happy to hand her over for a night, too. Much more than that, and I'm afraid I'd go through 4-year-old withdrawal.

Went to a Girl Scouts Haiti Relief Bazaar on Saturday. Spent $10 and came away with a box of loot. Clothes for Eden next year, a Tonka tractor for Lars, a Blues' Clues puppet, lots of books and coloring books and three ziplock bags of stickers and loose cards for Eden to put in her desk and stop using mine. Well worth the time spent, I thought. I'm ready for my GS cookies to come, though.

Monday morning now and we're off to a busy start of a week. I won't spoil the fun, but it ends with the preacher going away overnight this weekend for meetings in Casper, which is where being a Pastor's wife, alone in the wild west is kind of hard. Maybe the kids and I'll have a big pajama party with movies and popcorn. Or maybe we'll all go to bed early...hmmm.
