Port Huron

A day in Port Huron was the right way to end our summer vacation trip to Michigan.  We drove along the Lake St Clair shore to Lake Huron, found a park to picnic at near the lighthouse ship, walked along the water, swam at the beach, got stopped by the drawbridge, saw a freighter pass by at the boatnerd.com dock, and ate ice cream by the shore.  The weather was warm and everybody seemed to have a nice time.

Detroit

Meegan and I got crazy (as those of us 40 or nearing 40 will do) on Thursday night and drove to Detroit after hours.

We met Brian (Meegan's bloke) on his lunch hour and took a late night drive to the top of Greektown casino for a skyline view of the city. Everything looks beautiful and harmless from up there. We walked to Pegasus where Brian treated us to a midnight snack, despite the fact that there were plenty of other people's leftovers in the parking garage.

After photos from the top of the world, we spiraled down the parking garage alley at a high rate of speed, drove down to the water, passed all the major sport complexes and downtown sights, then trolled along Lake St Claire shores through Grosse Point, slowly, taking in the blackness of the night and shimmering of the water.  The Ambassador Bridge was all lit up blue with Canada just beyond.

I got home to find my bed inhabited and the floor the only other option for the remaining hour before sunrise.  oh well, I can nap later today.  Who knew I'd spend the next several hours occupying the emergency room with Elia?

Guess that's what I get for pulling an all nighter at my age...  but it was really fun and I'd do it all over again, too!

Gemeni!

Michigan's own music duo Gemeni came out to the Margarite deAngeli library in Lapeer on Thursday to give the kids a concert.  And what a show it was!
When I was a little girl, my mom took us to see these guys live and I had all the tapes. Now my kids sing the songs, have the CDs and listen to them on their MP3 player. The music is very much the same with the same high end enthusiasm and the smiles were abundant.

Thank you friends of the library for lunch and cultural fun!
