Summer is here. And for every good Lutheran, we must ask....What Does This Mean?
What are the smells of summer, the sounds of summer, the sights of summer?
Morning dew. Sunshine. Sandals. Birkenstocks, to be specific. Nothing beats a good pair of Birks. Photographs of sunny smiles. Breakfast on the deck. Early morning walks, Long evenings on the patio. Sunblock & big brimmed hats. People stopping by. The smell of the burning grill. Friends in flip flops, kids in swim suits, sprinklers, freshly cut green grass, fully bloomed trees, flowers of every color and size! Vegetables growing in the garden. Sunglasses! The lakes, as tiny as they may be, a taste of Michigan days gone by. Bike rides. Bug spray. S'mores over licking orange campfires. Samson sleeping lazily in the cool dirt. On my back in the grass, looking at the stars. Picnics. Sun dresses! Playing in the park. Swimming. Lars laying in the sandbox, vrooming trucks for hours on end. Air conditioning. Nightly baths to get the sand out of hair and diapers. Eden swinging on the swing set, higher and higher and higher. The sound of motorcycles driving by in the distance. Ice cream cones dripping all over the place.
Man I love summer.
The solstice has passed 24 hours now and I'm soaking up the sun. I hope you are, too!
